Work, appointments, different childcare hours and little room for the unexpected: many families therefore coordinate several solutions at once – daycare or after-school care, grandparents, friends and neighbours.
Childcare isn’t just a question of time. It affects organisation, income and the room to manoeuvre in family life.

Fam4Fam replaces neither daycare nor grandparents. It gives families an additional, reliable network in the neighbourhood when appointments clash or grandparents need a break.

Almost every family already combines several building blocks, with coordination, journeys and little reserve if one falls through.
What if families near you could become part of this network too?
Not as a replacement for daycare or grandparents, but as an additional building block that makes mutual help nearby easy to find and organise.
Fam4Fam extends your existing childcare network with families in your area, as a complement to daycare, grandparents and professional childcare.
Fam4Fam is purely a matching and settlement platform – not an employer and not a childcare institution. The childcare agreement is concluded exclusively and directly between the families involved.
Discover families near you whose free time matches your needs, and get to know each other in person first.
Request and arrange childcare. Drop-off and pick-up are confirmed by both families.
Childcare time given and received is recorded transparently. CashHours can optionally close time gaps financially.

05 · How it works
From many islands to one network.
Childcare is needed.
The Meiers and the Bergers need childcare support on Wednesday afternoon and open Fam4Fam.
Who’s free then?
On the map, both families see who nearby is available at the time they need: the Kellers are free.
Good fit? Send a request.
Both send the Kellers a childcare request for Wednesday afternoon. The Kellers confirm both requests.
Childcare begins.
On the agreed day, the Meiers and Bergers bring Lia and Noah to the Kellers. One family looks after, two get a break.
Time becomes CareHours.
At pick-up, the session is completed. Fam4Fam automatically records the actual childcare time for both children as CareHours.
Childcare becomes a network.
On Friday morning, the Kellers need support themselves. The Rossis are free and look after Ben. Not all at once – over the week, the families complement each other.
Put together your current childcare and see what potential a family network could have.
One child-hour means: one child is looked after for one hour. Two children for two hours make four child-hours, while your own time stays two hours.

Grandparents and relatives already support many families. Fam4Fam extends this personal network with nearby families whose free time and childcare needs complement each other.
All calculations run only in your browser; no data is stored. Fam4Fam can cover part of your childcare need as a complement – it doesn’t replace daycare, school or grandparents.

A lower workload means less pay in the family budget.
Lower earnings can also reduce AHV and pension fund contributions.
More childcare options can help maintain your workload.
Possible connections, not an individual calculation or guarantee.
CareHours: pure 1:1 exchange time. For every confirmed child-hour of care in the time model, you receive one CareHour. You can use it later for childcare with a suitable family. CareHours are not money and cannot be paid out. Merely offering time does not create CareHours.
CashHours: buy extra when you’re short of time. If your own time contributions or existing CareHours aren’t enough, you can optionally buy childcare. Indicative example per child-hour: CHF 6.00 childcare allowance as an expense allowance between families, plus a separate CHF 1.50 service/platform fee for Fam4Fam – CHF 7.50 in total. These are non-binding indicative examples for the pilot phase (under review), not binding rates. The caregiving family receives the agreed allowance only for childcare that has taken place and been confirmed – not CareHours on top.
A child-hour means: one child is looked after for one hour. Offered availability is not childcare provided, and surplus time is not paid out automatically. The agreed settlement type determines what you receive in return; a suitable match is not guaranteed.
Simply explained: two families
CareHours · time for time
Family A
looks after 1 child · 2 h
+ 2 CareHours
Family B
You look after a child for two hours and receive two CareHours, which you can later use for your own childcare.
CashHours · optional
Need childcare but have no CareHours? You can optionally arrange childcare hours for payment.
Two separate models: CareHours are never converted into money, and the same childcare never earns both.
Childcare is a matter of trust. Fam4Fam can’t replace trust, but the platform makes it verifiable: with verification, confirmed processes and a concrete child protection framework.
Verification
Fam4Fam knows the families behind the profiles, with levels each family chooses for itself.
Every account is based on a confirmed phone number – the first barrier against fake profiles.
Families can verify themselves with the front and back of an official ID. Verified profiles are marked in the app.
A document confirms the registered address – the basis for families in the neighbourhood really knowing each other.
Families can voluntarily submit a special extract from the Swiss criminal record – a strong signal to other families.
Verifications are voluntary and tiered, from phone number to special criminal record extract. What a family has had verified is visible to others.
Families meet in person before the first childcare session and decide for themselves whether it’s a good fit.
Check-in and check-out of every session are confirmed by both families, so it’s always clear who looked after whom and when.
Children are handed over only to verified parents or guardians or to explicitly authorised persons.
Concerning behaviour can be reported directly in the app. Reports are reviewed confidentially and affected accounts are blocked.
A binding code of conduct applies in the app for families providing care: no childcare under the influence of alcohol, no photos of children without explicit permission, and clear rules on handover, allergies and emergency contacts.
Fam4Fam supports the organisation; the decision for a childcare arrangement and the specific agreements are made by the families involved.

Fam4Fam is being built step by step, together with families who want to rethink childcare.
Fam4Fam grew out of a simple question: why not connect families whose childcare needs and free time complement each other?
The platform, profiles, childcare search, CareHours and safe handovers come together into one experience.
We’re testing Fam4Fam with real processes, improving usability and preparing everything for the first families.
A first group of families uses Fam4Fam in everyday life. Their feedback goes straight into the platform.
Fam4Fam will first launch in targeted regions where enough families can form a local network.
Fam4Fam opens its doors. Families can find each other, support each other and build their own childcare network.
Register your family directly in the app. We review sign-ups on an ongoing basis: selected families test Fam4Fam before the official launch and help shape the platform for everyday life with their feedback.

Fam4Fam grew out of a personal question.
We are two brothers from the cantons of Solothurn and Fribourg, and we founded Fam4Fam because childcare suddenly became part of our own lives.
One of us is becoming a father. His partner already works part-time, the grandparents will help and daycare is an important option for us too. But the more concrete the planning became, the more we realised: childcare isn’t just about finding a free place. It’s about time, costs, fixed childcare days and how flexibly family and work can still fit together.
That raised a simple question: What if families didn’t have to fill every childcare gap on their own?
In almost every neighbourhood there are families facing similar challenges – just not always at the same time. While one family needs support, another may have capacity right now. And a few days later it can be exactly the other way round.
That’s why we founded Fam4Fam: a platform that brings nearby families together and makes mutual childcare easy to organise. With availability, safe handovers and CareHours that show how much time families give each other.
Not as a replacement for daycare or grandparents. But as an additional building block for family life that’s allowed to be more flexible.
We’re not building Fam4Fam for some theoretical target group. We’re also building it for our own family.
And perhaps that is our biggest motivation: we want to experience for ourselves whether childcare can work in a more community-based, flexible and perhaps more affordable way. If this grows into a network that gives other families more freedom in everyday life too, our personal question will have become something much bigger: families helping families. Today you. Tomorrow perhaps you them.
Here you’ll find answers to what families often want to know.
Exclusively the families involved, directly with each other. Fam4Fam is purely a matching and settlement platform following a marketplace model – not an employer and not a childcare institution. Use of the platform is a separate contractual relationship; Fam4Fam does not provide any childcare itself.
This depends, among other things, on the canton, how regular the care is and the specific arrangement. Clarify in advance any notification and authorisation requirements under the Swiss Foster Care Ordinance (PAVO) and cantonal law with the competent authority and, where applicable, requirements under the Recruitment Act (AVG). For childcare allowances paid in money, including cash, social insurance and taxes must be checked, if necessary with the compensation office. Calling it an expense allowance does not automatically exempt you from such obligations. Fam4Fam gives no blanket assurance of legal compliance; the platform’s own legal obligations remain. Details are set out in the Terms.
Not as a replacement. Fam4Fam complements daycare, after-school care, grandparents and professional childcare – an additional way to bridge gaps together with other families, for example at off-peak times or on individual days.
Families helping families: you can swap childcare by looking after another family’s children and later receiving childcare yourselves. Fam4Fam supports families across Switzerland, for example also for childcare in Fribourg or Solothurn, as soon as enough families in your region take part.
Yes. If you have time, you can support other families. If you provide care in the time model, you receive CareHours after confirmed childcare – one per child cared for per hour. Your own children don’t count. Merely offering time does not create a balance.
CareHours are pure 1:1 exchange time: one confirmed hour of caring for another family’s child equals one CareHour. You can use it later for childcare with a suitable family. The balance doesn’t have to happen immediately or with the same family; a suitable match is not guaranteed. CareHours are not money and cannot be bought, paid out or converted into CashHours.
CashHours are an optional purchase when you’re short of time. As non-binding indicative examples for the pilot phase (under review), per child-hour: CHF 6.00 childcare allowance for the caregiving family plus a separate CHF 1.50 service/platform fee for Fam4Fam, CHF 7.50 in total. The childcare allowance is an expense allowance between families and only arises for childcare that was agreed, provided and confirmed accordingly – not CareHours on top. Purchased hours are not a freely withdrawable cash balance; a CareHours surplus is not paid out. Before any paid transaction, both items and the total amount are shown separately.
Fam Free offers the complete core process without a subscription. Fam Plus is an optional convenience subscription. Independently of this, optional CashHours costs may arise for childcare not balanced by your own time or existing CareHours (non-binding indicative example for the pilot phase, under review: CHF 6.00 childcare allowance plus a separate CHF 1.50 service/platform fee, CHF 7.50 in total per child-hour).
Fam4Fam is in its test phase and will first launch in regions where enough families can form a local network. We’ll only announce a date once it’s fixed – by pre-registering, you’ll be the first to know.
Fam4Fam is for families who want to support each other with childcare. Whether a childcare arrangement suits you is your decision, after meeting and based on your own agreements.
Fam4Fam is designed for careful handling of personal information. Which data is processed and for what purpose is explained in the privacy policy at fam4fam.ch/datenschutz.
No – not immediately and not necessarily with the same family. CareHours show time contributions. If your own time or existing CareHours aren’t enough, buying CashHours is an optional way to balance. A suitable match is not guaranteed.
